State Supreme Court takes jurisdiction in pardons cases

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Mississippi Supreme Court has just ordered that the case of four of the killers pardoned by Gov. Haley Barbour be moved to the supreme court.

The high court will now take jurisdiction over the pardon cases of Charles Hooker, David Gatlin, Nathan Kern and Anthony McCray.

The court also ordered a stay of proceedings in all the other cases in which Attorney General Jim Hood filed suit against the Department of Corrections in the pardon controversy.

It had been previously charged by Hood that the pardons were not handled correctly and families of victims had not been properly notified.

The court will hear oral arguments February 9th.
