JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Saturday started off mainly dry, but things will change through the day as a cold front inches closer to our area.
By lunchtime, I expect scattered showers and isolated storms across our area. The rain and storms will increase in coverage as the front comes into central Mississippi during the mid to late afternoon hours.
The front will arrive right as temperatures are peaking in the 70s. This warm air will give us enough instability to cause a few storms to get strong. I don't expect any big time severe weather, but some storms may produce winds up to 50mph and small hail.
The front will continue to push through the area this evening, taking the bulk of the rain and storms into southeast Mississippi by mid evening. Some showers may linger behind the cold front.
Cooler air builds in overnight, when lows drop to near 50.
The rain will be gone by sunrise Sunday. Clouds will begin to move out throughout the day, giving way to some sunshine Sunday afternoon.
Much of next week will be dry and seasonably cool.
