An Attala County grand jury will review the evidence surrounding the death of a black man.
Wednesday Justice Court Judge Bob Jordan bound over Frankie Barber and Barry Ware, both of whom are white, to the grand jury. Both men are charged in the January 7th shooting death of Cedric M. Sharkey.
Sheriff William Lee says the shooting stemmed from Barber and Ware chasing Sharkey and confronting him about stealing iron or other scrap metal from Barber's property.
Area residents had expressed concern that Sharkey was the victim of a hate crime. Sheriff Lee has told WLBT News that the FBI was being consulted to help determine that.
Sharkey died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
