Bond set for Pearl woman arrested for child abandonment

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Bond has been set for the woman who abandoned her 11-month-old child Friday in Pearl.

22-year-old Tabatha Gordy faces a $50,000 bond for child abandonment.

Her initial appearance in Pearl Municipal Court is scheduled for Thursday.

Just after 3 pm Friday afternoon, Pearl police were called to Claudia's Daycare Center off Pearson Road.

Workers at the daycare center say Gordy walked in with her 11-month old boy and then left without him.

Daycare owner Claudia Sears said,"She was just sitting there and I said, can I help you, can I help you and she still would not answer me. And she kept holding her head down. She kissed him on his forehead and left and we knew when she kissed him that she would not, she was leaving him."

Pearl police charged Gordy with child abandonment, making false identity statements to police officers, DUI, and an open container violation.

Her last known address was in Brandon but police say she's been living in hotels recently.

Gordy is being held at the Rankin County Detention Center.
