Jackson recycling plant beating suspect in court Monday

HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

One of the men accused in a brutal beating at a Jackson recycling plant has appeared before a judge. Jontez Garvis, 29, made his first appearance before a Hinds County judge Monday morning.

Garvis and David Thomas, 25, each face charges of aggravated assault in connection with a violent attack.

Garvis had nothing to say after his Monday court appearance.

Police released this surveillance video of the brutal beating that took place at Tri-Miss Recycling a week ago. Police say Fred Jackson was robbed, beaten and left for dead.

The Vicksburg man remains in critical condition at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.

David Thomas will face a judge Tuesday.
