Shoppers flock to new grocery store

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A new Mississippi-owned grocery store has reopened at a familiar site in south Jackson at the old Brookshire's.

Food Depot sits at the corner of Terry and McDowell roads, one of the busiest intersections in that area.

Brookshire's closed in January of 2010, when they left the market.

It is a 55,000 square foot grocery store. Food Depot has already had success in this market with a similar store on Northside Drive near I-220.

This is the 13th store  for the Kosciusko- based company.  Part owner, Roy Sims, is convinced his company's formula for success will work well again, at the new south Jackson store.

"We do it with service. We do it with quality. And as we say, we cut meat every day. And that's real important in this day and time," said Sims.

When asked if Food Depot is able to compete with the prices at Kroger and Walmart, Sims responded this way.

"We certainly are. We feel like we do no games, no gimmicks, no cards, we do everything pricing. And we feel like we are competitive with anybody in the market."

There will be a gas station opening at the new south Jackson Food Depot in four to six weeks.
