Dixie National Rodeo in town

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

This Dixie National wagon train left Taylorsville in Smith County last Saturday.

The 35 wagons ended their modern day trail ride at the fairgrounds where the largest livestock show and rodeo east of the Mississippi River is taking place.

We asked the riders how they pass the time at the end of each day.

"Everybody gathers around and we all eat together, campfire and just fellowship," said Rhenae Riser, wagon train rider.

For some, the trip is a tradition that has been handed down for generations.

"My momma and daddy used to bring us all with the kids and wagons. Now I've just been keeping it going on with them and everything. It's been 45 years for me now," added Billy Ray McNeill, wagon train rider.

And still others come to meet new friends and enjoy a good time along the trial.

"Can't ask for better people. Mississippi people are great. Louisiana people are better but Mississippi people are great. Wonderful time we had a whole week of good, good hospitality, awesome food, awesome people. Just everything was A+," added wagon train rider Todd Deneis.

The riders say it's a week of fun and fellowship on the way from Taylorsville to here at the state fairgrounds where it culminates with the Dixie National Livestock Show and Rodeo.
