Coldest air since January 2011 arrives tonight

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Winds will weaken tonight as the coldest air settles in. Expect a hard freeze tonight. Lows in the upper 10s to lower 20s.

After morning frost, sunshine will warm us into the lower 40s Sunday afternoon.

The cold air will begin to move out Monday. At the same time, moisture will begin to return to our area just head of the next weather system. Precipitation may begin to fall through the atmosphere before the coldest temperatures depart. If this happens, some light sleet may be possible on Monday morning. Right now it appears this sleet would be very light and will not cause any travel issues. Temperatures will warm safely above freezing by Monday afternoon, so as the heavier precipitation moves in, it will be all rain. Again, let me repeat...light sleet may begin Monday before we warm above freezing. It will not cause travel issues and all rain is expected by Monday afternoon.

Temperatures will warm back above normal by the middle of next week, with on and off rain chances through most of the week.
