JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A chilling discovery on a brutally cold day launches the capital city's most recent murder investigation.

Jackson Police were called to the intersection of Carter Avenue and Markham Street shortly after three.

There they found the teen's body with no identification.

He was shot once in the forehead.

Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart estimates that he is between 15 and 18 years old.

Police do not know if he was shot there or dumped from a vehicle.

Neighbors said they did not hear any gunfire and only saw a young man who appeared to be unconscious on the ground

Onlookers watched from atop nearby railroad tracks as investigators combed the area for clues. No identification was found on the young teen's body.

"We're investigating our latest homicide. Preliminary investigations reveal that as we came on scene we noticed the subject had been laying face down in the grassy area with a gunshot wound to his head," said JPD officer Colendula Green.

This is the fifth homicide investigation of the year.

Authorities said two of those remain unsolved.
