Man killed when car crashes into tree

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Scott County man died when investigators say his car crashed into a pine tree in Rankin county.

Coroner Jimmy Roberts identified the victim as David Hurtado Vega of Morton.

He was pronounced dead at the scene just after midnight.

Roberts said the 23 year old was traveling north on Old Highway 471 north of Brandon at the time of the crash.

A passerby reported that Vegas' Dodge had collided with a tree near a portion of the road that is under construction.

Preliminary investigations indicate speed was a factor.
