JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The cold air aloft with temps close to freezing on the ground made for a mixed bag of precipitation for the morning commute; particularly for the folks to the south of the I-20 corridor.

Morning radar images flip-flopped between light snow/sleet and rain prior to the sun rising. Brief appearances of snow was reported throughout the southern portions of the state, but the winter weather advisories were issued for north Mississippi and Memphis area. Highs are expected to reach 49 degrees with mainly rain during the day.

Tonight we could see additional precipitation, mainly in the form of cold rain. Overnight lows are expected to stay well above the norm for this time of the year, staying in the 40s. Winds will shift from the south at 10-15 mph. Our chances of precipitation will stick around during the overnight period going into the early morning hours.

Tomorrow morning we may see a bit of rainfall, but just in the form of rain. Possible patchy fog may slow us down briefly; but a much warmer day is expected. Our chances of rain will be much higher in the morning hours. Another chance of showers will arise on Wednesday.
