RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Brian Fuente, 28 of Ridgeland, made his national singing debut on the NBC hit show The Voice.
Fuente's family and friends gathered Monday night at his mother's Ridgeland home for his television appearance.
Lisa Palmer, a jazz vocalist, accompanied her son to the Los Angeles auditions in October.
Fuente began performing with her around the age of 14 in Jackson clubs.
The 2002 Madison Central High School graduate has lived in Nashville for the past five years.
He writes music and performed with the band Brian Fuente and Newmatic in Nashville before striking out on his own and then auditioning for the show in August.
Fuente competed during the Blind Audition portion of the hit reality talent show.
The rock and roll singer performed to the backs of celebrity talent coaches Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton.
"The moment I saw the chair turn was the most incredible feeling I've ever had in my entire life," Fuente said. "It all came back to me from starting out at Hal and Mal's and then playing Poets and just playing all around Jackson."
"He was on the last day of auditions and all the teams were filling up," Lisa Palmer said. "Everybody had one spot left except for one that had two. So when I was back stage I knew these teams were getting filled up and I was like a caged animal back stage. I was so nervous."
The Hattiesburg native was chosen by Blake Shelton and moves on to battle other singers in the coming episodes for a chance to win a recording contract.
He sang the Grace Potter and the Nocturnal's song "Paris (Ooh La La)", but only a short segment of his interaction with Shelton aired.
Also during Monday's show Elley Duhes, 19 of Vancleave, also sang "Mercy" during the blind auditions but was not chosen to continue in the competition.
