Citizens Police Academy helps to prevent crime

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Another way to help take back a neighborhood is to be involved with crime prevention in a community.

To do that, it's important to know how a police department works.

That's the idea behind the Citizens Police Academy sponsored by the Jackson Police Department.

Average citizens spend time, up close and personal, learning things like how the dispatch center works.

"It was a wonderful experience," said J.C. Johnson, Jr. with the Citizens Police Academy. "It was quite intriguing and is quite eye opening. It helps us to really see the intricacies of the Jackson Police Department and let me say the finest."

WLBT Producer Galean Stewart is a member of the Citizens Academy.

There will be another Citizens Police Academy in June.

If anyone is interested, they can call Linda Wooley at 601-960-1389 for more information.
