Authorities said a Gulfport woman who left her children unattended while she went shopping returned to a fire-ravaged home and learned firefighters had rescued her girls and that she was being arrested on two counts of felony child neglect.
Police Sgt. Christopher De Back tells The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/wyiqV7 ) the girls, 3 and 5, were hospitalized for observation Tuesday.
De Back says police took Brenda Maria Salas-Aguliar into custody, where she lived in a multi-family home that had rooms rented out to several different people who mainly speak Spanish. She was booked at the county jail on a $50,000 bond.
Fire Chief David Roberts credited firefighters with saving the girls' lives. Firefighter pulled them out and performed CPR in the front yard.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
