The Mississippi Fairgrounds are packed with people in town for the Dixie National Rodeo and Livestock Show. Wednesday is the first day of the quarter horse show. In conjunction with that, there's a major shopping expo taking place inside of the Mississippi Trademart.
Within the first few minutes of the Dixie National Equine Expo opening up, shopper Faith Sikes already found some good buys.
"I was over here picking out a belt; he's fixing to cut one down," said Sikes.
The expo features 90,000 square feet of shopping for horse lovers and western apparel enthusiasts. Sikes said she makes a point to get here early every year. She says you'll find deals you can't get anywhere else.
"Like these belts you can find them here, but they have great prices on belts and purses and of course jewelry and boots, I just bought a pair of boots here."
Speaking of boots, the retailer, Sage Brush Ranch and Home has dozens of cowboy boots ranging in a rainbow of colors and sizes. Nila Richards said her affordable prices make her apparel unique. You won't spend more than $60 on her boots, meaning the stylish footwear probably won't last long.
"What you see is what you get, so if you come in and see a pair you think you just got to have buy it then because it'll be gone in an hour," said Richards.
Like cowboy boots, saddles are another traditional item you'll find at the expo. But, Phil Harris makes his saddles with a stylish twist. When you walk into the Harris Leather and Silverworks trailer, you'll find all of the saddles and accessories are custom made and embroidered with silver. The average cost for a saddle is $9,000.
"You personalize the saddle to your individual taste and it's all about individuality and uniqueness in this industry," said Harris.
The Equine Expo is open 9AM to 7PM Wednesday through Saturday and 9PM to 3PM on Sunday at the Mississippi Trademart. Admission is free.
