Jackson Mayor Johnson to decrease abandoned properties

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The city of Jackson hopes to tighten the reigns on vacant and abandoned properties.

Mayor Harvey Johnson told city council members this week that he will soon introduce a vacant property plan. It would require each property owner to declare his or her intentions for their property once it becomes vacant.

Mayor Johnson hopes it will make a difference in the number of unsightly abandoned properties. It will also help the city keep track of properties and their owners. The mayor will work closely with the community improvement division to devise the plan.
