Woman killed in busy highway intersection crash

A Jefferson County woman was killed when investigators said she failed to stop at a major intersection crossing into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Sgt. Rusty Boyd said the crash occurred around 1:15 Sunday afternoon in Fayette at the intersection of Highway 61 and Sunny Side Drive.

The fatal crash victim has been identified as 21 year old Kiara L. Short of Fayette.

According to authorities, Short was traveling westbound on Sunny Side Drive.

Her Buick Century did not yield at the highway and was struck by a Ford F-150 traveling northbound.

The oncoming truck slammed into the driver's side of Short's car.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck's driver, 18 year old Benjamin C. Skidmore of Natchez. , suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention.

Both were wearing seat belts.
