A mysterious death and missing persons investigation is underway in Crystal Springs.
A man was found dead inside his home and relatives fear for his mother's safety, because she has not been seen for weeks.
Crystal Springs police made a gruesome discovery inside a Lee Avenue home late Saturday night after neighbors said they had not seen Jason Bailey for several days.
Copiah County Assistant Coroner Judy Evans said the 38 year old was found sitting on a living room sofa.
He had been dead for at least six days.
His badly decomposed body did not show obvious signs of injury or trauma.
But investigators are concerned because relatives have also not been able to find his mother, Judy Greer, who also lived at the home.
"We had information that she had moved but we located where they said she moved to, and she wasn't there. So we're still in the process of trying to locate her," said Chris Palmer, Crystal Springs Police Department Investigator.
Red flags were raised with detectives when they looked into Bailey's background.
Law officers said he had a lengthy criminal record of various drug arrests, and more disturbing he was charged with domestic abuse of his mother.
"He did have a history of some drug use. We have had information that it was an abusive home between the mother and son," said Detective Palmer "We have been at the residence before basically arguments, money arguments."
Police were told Greer had moved with friends to Port Gibson but she was not located there, and the 62 year old has not been answering her cell phone.
She was reportedly last seen about two weeks ago.
Some fear Bailey may have overdosed and possibly argued with his mother before she disappeared.
"We received several calls from neighbors that they had not seen her in a while. We've also talked with family members that hadn't seen or talked to her," Palmer said.
No neighbors on Lee Avenue wanted to comment on the case.
Investigators are awaiting Bailey's autopsy results.
