JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Three Jackson Police officers have been arrested for taking bribes.

Monyette Jefferson, 27,  Terence Jenkins, 25, and Anthony Payne Jr., 25, were protecting what they believed to be drug transactions.

On June 25, 2010, Jefferson and Payne met with undercover agent posing as a drug dealer to discuss protection of a shipment of cocaine.

Later that day, Jefferson arrived at Hawkins Field and assisted in removing 4 suitcases from a plane and was paid $6,000 for his protection.

Also on June 25, 2010, Jenkins provided protection for a drug transaction of 20 kilos of cocaine between 2 undercover agents at Hawkins Field. Jenkins was paid $5,000.

Later that afternoon, Payne and Jefferson provided protection for another cocaine purchase set up by undercover agents.

Payne was paid $5,000.

In each instance the defendants were either in their JPD uniform or driving their car.
