LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - The West Lincoln boys basketball team has had to wait since 1996 for another shot at a gold ball.
That's the last time the Bears made it to the Big House.
"We've given ourselves a great chance to get there and win the whole thing," said Bears head coach Lane Young.
You have to go back 30 years since the last time West Lincoln won the whole thing.
Back-to-back championship season in 1981 and 1982.
There is one thing that connects those title teams to the 2011-12 West Lincoln squad.
The Case family.
The head coach of the '81-'82 championship teams, Jack Case.
One of the top players on those teams, his son, Jason Case.
30 years later, Jason is the principal of West Lincoln High School.
His son, Jared, is the teams leading scorer in search of the 1A state title.
"I just think it would be special if we could win my junior and senior year like my dad did. I just think that would be special," said Jared Case.
West Lincoln faces Coldwater in the opening round of the 1A final four on Saturday at the Mississippi Coliseum.
