Big art auction Saturday at Jackson Hilton

The Hilton Hotel in Jackson is gearing up for a big auction on Saturday.

Bryant Galleries in Jackson and New Orleans is auctioning off more than 400 pieces of art, including a 6-feet-tall, 1,800-pound bronze statue of the late jazz musician Miles Davis. Starting bid for the sculpture is $10,000.

Other artwork includes original paintings and lithographs.

Bryant galleries was owned by the late Bryant Allen and his wife.

"Mr. and Mrs. Allen traveled the whole world getting art, working with artists, commissioning those artists to do various works, brought these back to Mississippi and New Orleans, sold them from their galleries," says Auctioneer Nick Clark.

Registration runs from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hilton. The auction begins at 10 a.m. in the ballroom. It's free of charge. Several pieces have a reserve, but most will go to the highest bidder.
