PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Trustmark Park in Pearl is a baseball stadium but the facility was used as a running track Saturday.
People got great exercise and raised money for the American Lung Association at the same time.
The "Fight For Air Climb" started in the park with runners traveling up and down the stairways for half a mile.
Then, after a two-mile run outside the park, they finished with another half-mile trek on the stairways.
Ten members of the Reservoir Fire Department completed the challenge while wearing their full gear.
"We're carrying an extra 30-35 pounds," said Deputy Chief Josh Swales, Reservoir Fire Department. "Then we start sweating in it another 5-10 pounds so it gets kinda heavy. Then toward the end we're dragging a little bit."
"We have some here just to do something different, to challenge their lungs, some here for a special story, running in honor or memory of someone with lung disease," said Merle Eldridge, Development Director of the American Lung Association.
The American Lung Association hopes to raise $95,000 with the event.
