JPD officers set for court Monday

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two of three Jackson Police officers charged in a federal corruption case are scheduled to appear in court Monday.

Monyette Quintel Jefferson, 27, and Terence Dale Jenkins, 25,  are set to appear before Federal Magistrate Linda Anderson at 1:30 p.m.

The arrests stemmed from a 2010 FBI sting operation. Authorities say an FBI agent posed as a drug dealer and met with Jefferson and a third Jackson police officer, Anthony Ricardo Payne, Jr. Agents say Jefferson was paid $6,000 to help the undercover agent load four suitcases of cocaine off an airplane at Hawkins Field and into a vehicle.

Authorities say Jenkins received $5,000 to provide protection for what he believed was a drug deal involving about 44 pounds of cocaine.

In each case, agents say the officers were in uniform or were driving their city issued police cars.
