JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Jackson elementary school was placed on lock down after a nearby home invasion and armed robbery attempt. Police were called to 4626 Hillside Drive at 3:06 Monday afternoon to investigate.

Officer Colendula Green says two black males, one wearing a ski mask, entered the home with weapons and tried to rob a man inside.

Green says an altercation broke out and two shots were fired inside. The suspects fled the house and Green says more shots were fired outside.

Green Elementary School was placed on lock down as officers combed the area. Some parents were contacted to come pick up their children.

Concerned parent Talmechia Griffin said, "I was called on my job. I didn't hear anything. I was wondering what happened and she said in the after school program, they're advising all the parents to come get their children because there was an incident outside."

Another parent, Jennifer Latham said, "It's very concerning because she's very upset.  She thought she was going to have a heart attack," referring to her child.

The children were placed on the hallway floor inside the school as a precaution.

Officer Green says there were no injuries, however, a school janitor says she saw one of the fleeing suspects leave blood stains on the Green Elementary walkway.
