Webster County child found dead

WEBSTER COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An all-night search for a Webster County toddler ends with the discovery of his body.

Two-year-old Kye Mitchell disappeared from his front yard Sunday afternoon.

Mitchell's parents say he was playing outside before they noticed him missing around 3:30 PM.

More than 100 people volunteered in the search for the young boy and helicopters were used to cover rough terrain in the area.

Little Kye was discovered by volunteers in a pond about a quarter-mile behind his home Monday morning.

Despite the tragic ending, family members say they are grateful for the support.

Seth Mitchell, a family member and Webster County Incident Commander said, "Of course, it's always hard when you lose a child of any age. They did tell me that they appreciated all the help from everyone and they said they really could see the love shown toward them from everyone in this county and all our surrounding counties."

An autopsy will be conducted in Jackson.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is still trying to determine if foul play was a factor.
