JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Angelia Allen scored 14 points, Leslie Robinson hit a go-ahead layup with less than 20 seconds remaining and Belmont came from behind to beat Ripley 39-38 in the Class 3A MHSAA girls state championship game.
Ripley led 38-32 with two minutes remaining, but Belmont (32-4) closed on a 7-0 run to win its second state title in three seasons.
Robinson's game-winning shot came after she weaved through traffic and finished with her left hand over a defender. Kelsie Montgomery had a steal with 1.4 seconds remaining that sealed the victory.
Belmont won despite shooting just 14 of 59 (23.7%) from the field and going scoreless in the first quarter.
Ripley (28-5) was led by Becca Ruckes and Jayla Chills, who both scored 13 points. Ruckes added 12 rebounds.
