"Great American Clean-Up" in Jackson

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Volunteers took time out of their Saturday morning to give back to the community.

Saturday kicked off the Great American Clean-Up in Jackson.

Teams met with groups from the City of Jackson and Keep Jackson Beautiful.

They started off at the Medgar-Evers Gymnasium.

From there they scattered throughout the area to pick up through the neighborhood.

This year, the city is focusing on cleaning up the Virden Addition Community.

"I always come and help the kick-off of the "Great American Clean-Up" in the neighborhoods I don't live in and it's just a wonderful thing to do to pick up and keep everything beautiful," said volunteer Dorothy Daniel.

If anyone is interested in forming their own neighborhood clean-up, contact the City of Jackson's Solid Waste Division at 601-960-1193.
