WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A Warren County teenager is shot by a man after getting into an argument with his grandchildren Saturday.

Sheriff Martin Pace says it happened around 4:30 p.m. inside the Pecan Ridge Mart convenience store on Freetown Road in the Culkin Community.

According to investigators the unidentified 18-year-old female and an acquaintance were inside the store when she began arguing with three female juveniles.

Investigators have arrested Willie McCoy, 60, the grandfather of the three girls.

Sheriff Pace spoke exclusively to WLBT News about the shocking turn of events.

"She and her acquaintance went back in the store and called 911," Sheriff Pace said. "Just minutes later these subjects returned with their grandfather. The grandfather stepped out of the car, walked in the store and began firing."

The shooting victim is hospitalized at River Region Medical Center.

McCoy was arrested at his home about a mile away and is charged with aggravated assault.

McCoy is being held at the Warren County Jail.
