Charges dismissed against animal shelter's executive director

RANKIN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Two noise ordinance violations were dismissed against Elizabeth Jackson, Executive Director of Rankin County's only no-kill animal shelter, Monday afternoon in County Court.

The kennels are kept on 22 acres of land.

The operators of the shelter have erected a tall fence surrounding the property and landscaping.

But some neighbors still complained loudly, saying their peace and quiet has been violated by dogs barking at all hours of the night.

Elizabeth Jackson's attorney says they are making significant correction and had this response to our questions following the court appearance.

"There is too much barking going on, neighbors are upset about that. What's the future of ARF?"

"The future of ARF is we want to get along with our neighbors, so we will take remedial measures so the neighbors can enjoy some peace and quiet," David Galyon said. "We are doing that as we speak."

Rankin County officials left without comment.

The Board of Supervisors recently passed a stringent new policy requiring heated and cooled buildings for shelters.

ARF says the policy was created in order to shutdown the no-kill shelter in Pelahatchie.

Jackson faces four additional counts of noise ordinance violations.
