JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Well a quick lunch break for 'hot wings' in the Capitol City turned into a really bad experience for a Vicksburg family.
They walked out of a local restaurant, only to find they had no ride home.
It had been stolen.
Frustrated with the situation, the truck owner called 3 On Your Side.
Ray Wilson is now driving a green Ford truck.
His locked 2010 super duty Ford was stolen from Hooters restaurant parking lot January 14 in broad daylight.
His personal $60,000 vehicle including hundreds of dollars in construction tools gone in a matter of minutes.
Wilson says similar trucks have also been stolen.
"What's frustrating about it is, there have been other vehicles stolen and not just in the Jackson area but Vicksburg and Flowood and they were all the same type vehicles," Wilson said.
A police report was filed in Jackson.
Oddly enough someone in Indianola was driving his stolen vehicle.
"Some guy from Indianola had bought it from a guy in Jackson, he paid $5,000 for the truck and my truck was a King Ranch 2010 about a $65,000 value that he paid $5,000 for," Wilson said.
About 3 weeks later, Wilson's stolen truck recovered, a truck that had been titled over to the new owner.
That person even bought a tag.
Lawmen told Wilson, the paperwork looked authentic but was bogus.
"He did have paperwork on the truck and had purchased tag for the truck," Wilson said.
Almost one month after the truck is stolen, then recovered, his insurance settled, Jackson Police Department detectives have still not provided Wilson or his insurance company a police report.
So he called WLBT to warn others that Ford work trucks are being targeted by thieves.
"If you know you're a target you should keep an eye on it because they will get it in a matter of minutes, it's gone," Wilson said.
WLBT contacted Jackson Police about Wilson's police report.
Officer Colendula Green said Wilson will have to come to Jackson and pay $15.00 for a copy of that report.
