HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

First their management office was locked up last month by Hinds County deputies for back taxes due the county.

Deputies were back at Highland Square Apartments Tuesday armed with Detention Center inmate labor, removing furniture, maintenance equipment and anything else of value.

Eddie Fair, Hinds County Tax Collector, was on site overseeing the operation.

Fair says the owners owe the county about $29,000 in back taxes and must pay up or lose the seized property.

Fair says none of this will affect residents.

"They have to go on paying rent and stuff of that nature," Fair said. "Somebody told us earlier that we had cut off their lights and water and all this kind of stuff and that's not true. We don't have anything to do with that. We have no way of doing it. Our only concern is to get paid."

Fair told 3 On Your Side the owners have 30 days to pay up or the seized items will be auctioned off and the County will be back to take more if necessary.
