BRANDON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
"Quarterico" may be the loudest and most excitable city this side of the Mississippi!
Fifth grade Venture students from Brandon Elementary School are selling their homemade goods in hopes of earning the most Venture bucks.
They had to create storefronts, and create their own unique product.
Jamal Anderson made key rings.
"I take chip bags, the regular size, and I shrink them," Anderson said. "I put them in the microwave, get a hole in there, put a key ring on it. It would make a great birthday present for kids, moms."
Since some products are selling quicker than others, some students have taken to peddling on the streets of "Quarterico".
That's how Peyton Sikes is selling his psycho-springs.
"My mom wanted to put the springs inside the cups, I said no, that wouldn't do," Sikes said. "I was gonna use paper clips, but we went to Walmart, found some swirly paper clips."
Others are sticking close to their booths, including Sarah Mitchell, who's selling Mardi Gras madness bags.
"I wanted to do Mardi Gras since my dad was from New Orleans, and Mardi Gras is famous down there," Mitchell said.
"Everyone has to create 200 of these products," says Venture teacher Donna Mabus. "Not only do they create the product, manufacture the product, they have to come to the school and advertise the product. This year we're donating the profits to Mustard Seed, Stewpot, and the completion of a monument in front of the Brandon Courthouse, where we'll be honoring veterans."
Profits are made when real dollars are exchanged for venture dollars, and the products are purchased.
