HINDS COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Three former Jackson cops have been indicted on charges of accepting bribes to protect what they thought were drug shipments.

Monyette Jefferson, 27, Terence Jenkins, 25, and Anthony Payne, Jr., 25, were arrested in an undercover operation.

A federal grand jury indicted the men Tuesday on conspiracy and other charges.

Payne's lawyer, John Colette, says Payne will plead not guilty.

Assistant Police Chief Lee Vance says Payne resigned in 2010.

Jefferson and Jenkins were removed from the force following their arrests.
