JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The story of the former Mississippi inmate who shared a jail cell with Edgar Ray Killen could hit movie theaters and book stores soon.

James Stern shared a Parchman Penitentiary cell with the reputed Ku Klux Klan leader for 1.5 years.

While there, Killen wrote letters to Stern, confessing to 32 civil rights era murders, including the deaths of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Mickey Schwerner.

In a press conference Wednesday, Stern announced plans to use the letters for a book and movie deal.

"Remember, this is bigger than just me and money," Stern said. "This is a historical issue. This is history."

Norm Nixon, former NBA star, of the Los Angeles Lakers and his wife, actress Debbie Allen, are Stern's Manager through their company, Red Bird Productions.

Stern was released last year and lives in California.
