How would you like to be on your way to work or on the way home and come across an obstruction in the road?
In this case a train that has stopped and blocking 4 intersections, including this one at State Street.
This scene plays out all the time, in this case Wednesday morning as Skycopter 3 captured the obvious frustration of motorists on their way to work and some turning around and going the long way around to get to downtown Jackson.
When they do so, does their frustration increase?
Are they more accident prone?
In January, a fire truck couldn't get to this fire in time because a train was blocking Northside Drive.
They had to watch it burn down.
The fact is, state law says a train can't stop at a highway crossing for more than 5 minutes.
I dare say the $50 fine for doing so is never enforced.
Yet state law says MDOT is in charge of enforcing this law.
MDOT enforcement needs to step to the plate and do its job.
And Jackson needs to adopt an ordinance restricting trains from blocking city streets.
This is ridiculous and frustrating for so many drivers.
That's my Point of View.
