A special celebration Thursday, in honor of Mississippi farmers.
It's National Ag Day: the perfect opportunity for several state and federal agencies to say "thank you" to our state's farmers and ranchers.
The event this morning at the farmer's market featured cooking demonstrations using locally grown ingredients. It also had locally grown produce for sale by area farmers.
The Ag Commissioner and Senator Billy Hudson led talks about the importance of agriculture in our state. Several area school kids were on hand to sample the foods and learn about the agricultural industry.
Agriculture is Mississippi's number one industry --worth more than six and a half billion dollars.
It employs about 17% of the state's workforce, either directly or indirectly.
