JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Fred Jackson, the Vicksburg man who was beaten and robbed while on the job at a Jackson recycling plant in January, has died.

Jackson police say Jackson, 61, was still being hospitalized for the injuries he sustained in the incident.

On January 29, Jackson, a welder, was working at Tri-Miss Recycling on Woodrow Wilson Avenue. Police say two men approached him, robbed him, and beat him up. They fled but were arrested a few days later.

Jackson police spokeswoman Colendula Green says charges against Jontez Garvis and David Thomas will now be upgraded to Capital Murder. Both are being held at the Hinds County Detention Center.
