Bikers pray for safe travels

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

With spring on its way bikers asked for a special blessing as they prepare to hit the open road.

The Dirty South Stunt Team of Jackson put on a motorcycle demonstration in the parking lot of Stronger Hope Baptist Church.

Hundreds of motorcycle riders from across the state watched the exciting show before gathering to pray for safety on the roadways.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of Fallen Riders.

It was also an opportunity for the motorcycle organization to sign up bikers for the No Phone Zone Campaign, held in memory of William Lofton.

Lofton was a rider who was killed in a motorcycle accident in August of 2010 that police said was caused by a motorist texting and driving.

"A bike blessing is a process to basically open up your riding season for motorcycle people that ride motorcycles, making sure that you're praying for safety and blessings throughout the season," said Friends of Fallen Riders events coordinator Stacy Vance.

This is the second year the blessing ceremony has been held.
