Santorum wins MS while supporters monitored close race

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum pulled off a victory in Mississippi Tuesday.

A watch party for Santorum was held Tuesday night at Burgers and Blues off County Line Road in Ridgeland.

His supporters gathered on the patio shortly after polls closed and kept up with news coverage three television monitors.

Campaign workers used laptops and cell phones to stay in contact with polling locations across the state as the votes were being counted.

Throughout the night the former Pennsylvania Senator was in a close race with Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, but Santorum maintained a lead.

Santorum State Political Director Chris Godbey said momentum was building for his candidate since Wednesday's visit to Jackson.

The Republican presidential candidate was also declared winner in Alabama.
