JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Jackson has so much going for it, including the new, old King Edward Hotel, charming Fondren, a high-tech Convention Complex, and more. But after a few clicks on the city's government website, you might think time is going backwards.
A link to "vehicle maintenance" takes you nowhere.
The Public Works Engineering page boasts that Woodrow Wilson Avenue will be repaved soon. But that project was done in 2010.
Also on the engineering page: if you want to find out more about the 54" express water main project from Lakeland Drive to Westside, there's a link to click. But it takes you to a page called "Tablecloth"; a message board discussing discount leather jackets and concentrated skin care.
"It's ridiculous," says Tamara Tate, a photographer who lives and works in Jackson. She wonders why she can't pull up any City Council meeting minutes.
"No minutes. So they're not having meetings? If they're having meetings, they're not recording the meetings," she says.
Nate Coleman sees a familiar face on the City Council page, but one that should have been removed in late December.
"(Kenneth) Stokes is out. It's his wife now," he says. "No one's updating the website at all."
While the Hinds County government website is fairly well maintained, 3 On Your Side has noticed that the Sheriff's Department website has been under construction for months now.
Spokesman Captain Joseph Daughtry says they're working on it.
And it's not all bad for the city. There's a nice leisure services guide online, and their jobs page appears reasonably up to date.
But Tate says the errors should be addressed.
"Little things like this make a really big difference," she says.
