Multiple fires destroy Jackson properties

Jackson firefighters were busy Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.

Around six on Wednesday night, fire crews put out a fire in an abandoned building in downtown Jackson. It's located just west of the Jackson Convention Complex. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Several hours later, fire completely destroyed a building right next to the Hilltop Suites Hotel. The now gutted building is located off of Interstate 20 on the West Frontage Road. The building was fully involved when crews arrived on the scene shortly after midnight. Jackson Fire Chief R.D. Simpson says no one was in the building when the fire department arrived on scene. There were no injuries.

Both fires are under investigation.
