JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Sweet Potato Queens and their wannabees have once again descended upon the Capital City.

They kicked off the Second Annual Zippity Doo Dah® weekend Thursday night.

The entire weekend benefits the Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children in Jackson and that's where the welcoming ceremony took place Thursday evening.

The Sweet Potato Queen herself, Jill Conner Browne along with JSU President and parade grand marshall Dr. Carolyn Meyers, and Chairman of the Batson Children's Hospital, Dr. Rick Barr were on hand for the ribbon cutting.

Then, they loaded up the Budweiser Clydesdales and made their way to Fondren.

"We're gonna have the Sonic Boom in the parade with us, it's just gonna be off the chain. Don't miss it, be in the streets of Fondren all this weekend," said Browne.

This year's theme is The Amazon: Run through the Jungle.

There are events throughout the weekend and the parade takes place in Fondren beginning at 7 Saturday night.
