Zippity Doo Dah Parade draws thousands

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

They danced in the streets of Jackson Saturday night as the Zippity Doo Dah Parade wound through the streets of Fondren.

Sweet Potato Queen Jill Conner Browne greeted a tiny queen wannabe in training before the start of the parade.

Thousands joined the spring festivities led by the JSU Sonic Boom band.

The world famous Budweiser Clydesdales added to the second year of the BankPlus Zippity Doo Dah Parade.

This year's theme is The Amazon: Run Through the Jungle. A street dance on Duling Avenue featuring the Delta Mountain Boys followed the night's parade.

All proceeds from the three day event benefit Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital. Last year it raised about $65,000.

"It's incredible and I've just been walking around looking at the costumes and I walked back and listed to the Jackson State Band for a minute and stayed far away from the J-settes. My comparison 30 years ago maybe I would have stood next to them, but not today," Conner Browne said.

The fun isn't over, it continues Sunday with the Sweet Sunday Bathrobe Brunch at 8:30 at the Hilton.
