A 21-year-old student has been shot to death in a Mississippi State University dormitory. John Sanderson of Madison was shot inside Evans Hall on Mississippi State's campus Saturday night.
So far, no arrests have been made. University officials say police have identified at least one person of interest. They also believe the incident was isolated and that no other student is in danger.
"The investigation continued through the night and continues to go on, a very aggressive investigation to resolve this," said Vice President of Student Affairs Bill Kibler. "Two important updates have taken place. A weapon has been found on our campus, so that's an important update on the investigation, and the police department reports that a person of interest has been identified. So we're encouraged that the investigation is making progress at this point."
Shortly after the shooting, the university began sending a series of text messages alerts to students.
