JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Mississippi's capital is latest city to rally in support of the teenager fatally shot in Florida.
Thousands gathered at the steps of Jackson City Hall Sunday afternoon protesting the investigation into the death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.
Ward 6 Councilman Tony Yarber organized the rally. Many stood in solidarity wearing hoodies as the teen did while walking unarmed in the gated Florida complex.
People young and old wore what is becoming a symbol of a movement that is spreading nationwide.
Signs in support of Trayvon were held and spirituals were sung during the demonstration.
"Justice needs to be done. I think that the biggest problem I have is just being a suspect, just because you're black. A hoodie doesn't make you a suspect. Crimes make you suspects," said protestor James Hopkins.
"I announced it at our church and urged people to come and I stopped and got a hoodie so I'd stand out in support of Trayvon," said protestor Eileen Hauswald.
George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer accused in the shooting has not been charged.
