Northpark Mall shooting - Man shoots himself in leg

RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Ridgeland Police believe they have the person responsible for shooting himself in the leg in Northpark Mall.

Chief Jimmy Houston says the person dropped his gun near center court, and it fired striking him in the leg. Police were called to the mall around 4 PM, but were unable to find a shooting victim, or any signs a shooting happened.

While interviewing witnesses, police got a call a man arrived at University Medical Center emergency room, fitting the description of the shooting victim.

Officers went to the hospital, where they also recovered the gun. The unidentified person will be charged with shooting in an occupied business, which is a felony.

No one else was hurt in this incident.
