Southaven mayor arrested after warrants issued

(WMC-TV) – Southaven Mayor Greg Davis is in trouble with the law again, but it isn't because of allegations he misused taxpayer money. Instead, he turned himself into authorities Tuesday for allegedly passing a stopped school bus.

Davis turned himself into the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department after warrants were issued for his arrest earlier in the day.

A school bus driver reported that the embattled mayor illegally passed a bus earlier this month, according to DeSoto County Schools.

However Stave Farese, Davis' attorney, said a witness who will confirm that Davis was following a vehicle that passed the bus illegally. Farese says the mayor only passed the bus in order to see the first vehicle's license plate.

DeSoto County Sheriff's Department officials say that Davis is accused of not only passing the bus but using blue and red lights, similar to those used by law enforcement while doing so.

It's illegal in Mississippi to use those lights except on-duty emergency personnel.
