JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Jarrod Emerson has been charged with the murder of Nolan Ryan Henderson. Twenty-five year old Emerson, who is Henderson's cousin, was arrested this afternoon.

Jackson Police were called to the Palisades Apartments, in the 1400 block of Valley Street, early Sunday morning. They found 19-year-old Nolan Ryan Henderson Shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives interview people who were at or near the location of the shooting. One of those interview was Emerson.

Emerson said Henderson called him and asked him to come over because he had been assaulted.

Emerson reportedly met with the victim at Highway 80 and Lynch Street, then he and Henderson went back to the Palisades Apartments to confront the people responsible for the assault.

Emerson was armed and confronted several people at the complex. He reportedly pulled his weapon and fired several shots.

Ballistics tests conducted by the Mississippi State Crime Law on the bullet recovered from Henderson showed the bullet matched the weapon Emerson was firing.

Wednesday morning, before the arrest, Henderson's family led students through campus to a memorial set up in Ryan's honor.

The family asked those in attendance to come forward if they had any information.

Assistant police Chief Lee Vance told WLBT News that investigators had received several different versions of what occured at the incident from witnesses, making their job harder.
