JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -
Chants of "we shall overcome" and "we want justice" filled the air on the campus of Tougaloo College this evening.
Students organized the freedom march and memorial service in support of Trayvon Martin, the Florida teenager shot to death by a self appointed neighborhood watch captain.
Organizer Xiomara Bell said, "Well, one of my elders told me today; he said that this is not just for the moment, but this is for the movement and that's why we're actually trying to get this started. It's going to be perpetrated everywhere. We always want to stay cognizant of our surroundings and actually do something about it, because I'm tired of my people being the stool of injustice in the world."
The event also focused on the killings of students on two Mississippi college campuses.
