Imagine, over a half billion dollars up for grabs. Mega Millions tickets are selling like mad all over the country.
The record breaking jackpot is up to $540 million and will likely go higher before the Friday night drawing.
We traveled to Delta, Louisiana. That's where hundreds have lined up for days to purchase their $1 dollar chance to hit the jackpot.
Late Thursday evening, long lines proved to be a safety concern for authorities in Delta. They decided to stop allowing people into the store and were only selling tickets to those already in line. They plan to begin selling tickets again at 6 am Friday.
Earlier Thursday, all had money in hand and eagerly snapped up lottery tickets inside and outside.
Operators of Delta Discount Wind and Spirits says everybody is feeling lucky! One clerk told us, "This has been crazy all day today. Very very crazy. Really crazy. I'm probably at about $12 thousand [in tickets] right now.
And that is just one clerk teller selling tickets behind the counter.
Nobody matched all six numbers in Tuesday's regular draw. The total jackpot has been growing since. With a $540 million total, the lump sum payment is estimated at $389 million, according to lottery officials. Winners can also take payments annually for 26 years for the full$540 million.
